The Deconstructed Aesthetic Of The New Balance 57/40 "Protection Pack"
The New Balance 2002R "Protection Pack," which included a trio of colorways with chunks of cut-out fuzzy suede slabs stacked on top of each other from heel to toe, was one of the most desired releases in recent months. For those who missed out on that release, the New Balance 57/40 "Protection Pack White" from the Boston footwear giant is now available.
The New Balance 57/40 is a modernized version of the iconic NB574 silhouette, which first appeared in 1988 and is as as popular now as it was then. The 57/40's top doesn't veer too far from the silhouette's original configuration, but the massive midsole unit down below is what sets it apart.
The foundation retains its basic form, but features deconstructed panels throughout in an almost-white tint akin to the New Balance 2002R "Sea Salt." Traditional New Balance logo elements complete the appearance, as does a big midsole beneath the foot that is tinted in a yellowish tone for a vintage impression.
