NBA Player Trae Young Gets His Own Signature Basketball Sneaker From Adidas
Adidas is resurrecting its basketball division by teaming up with Atlanta Hawks player Trae Young to release a special sneaker and clothing range bearing his name. Young made history by being the first player in NBA history to have a 45-point, 10-assist game in the Conference Finals while wearing the brand's new Trae Young 1 shoe, providing for an excellent marketing campaign ahead of the shoe's debut.
“Adidas and I worked very closely on my first signature shoe and I’m hyped to finally let fans get a hold of them. When you wear these, you’re repping that ice cold mentality and the entire city of Atlanta,” Young said in a press release. “This moment is really special as it’s a reminder to the next generation of hoopers that through hard work and focus you can achieve your dreams. Trae Young 1 is a symbol of that for me.”

The Trae Young 1 was built in close collaboration with Trae to accommodate his multi-directional playing style and distinctive methods of moving on the court. The sneakers have a half-bootie design with laces for added support, inspired by Young's laceless N3XT L3V3L model from his rookie NBA season. A Lightstrike midsole delivers lightweight responsiveness, while Adidas' Boost cushioning lines the heel for comfort. For further security, a tongue cover is placed over the lace unit.
The Trae Young 1 was created in honor of the basketball player's "ice-cold mentality and the music, culture, and legacy of the city of Atlanta," according to a press release. It will be available in five color schemes at first: Icee, an icy blue with red accents; Icee Cotton Candy, an ombre blue and pink; So So Def ATL, a yellow and red; Peachtree, a peach and green; and So So Def, a classic black All of the models pay homage to Young's youth by channeling his favorite foods or his birthplace of Atlanta.
“Trae embodies the mentality of limitless potential — unafraid to let anything get in the way of his ambition, he pushes boundaries, proves critics wrong and creates new space for himself and the game,” Adidas Basketball General Manager Eric Wise said in a press release. Hopefully, his signature sneakers will inspire (and help) others to push themselves to the same level.
Starting October 1, Icee and Icee Cotton Candy Trae Young 1 sneakers, as well as a commemorative quarter zip windbreaker, trouser, and short, will be available on Adidas' website. On November 5, the So So Def and So So Def ATL color schemes will be released. All models are $140, with the exception of the Peachtree color scheme, which will be $130 on November 19.
