Is The Balance 550 A Must-Have Sneaker?

Following Teddy Santis' resurrection for Aimé Leon Dore and the numerous colorways that have appeared (and sold out) in recent months, the New Balance 550 could be the coolest shoe right now. The 1980s basketball shoe is now available in a whole new colorway, this time in a basic white pattern with light blue accents. The top is made of perforated white leather with mesh across the tongue and heel, and it's perfect for everyday use.

The 550 was a quick sell-out because to the rising popularity of retro-inspired shapes, with its most recent release in yellow, black, and burgundy flying off the shelves. Collaborations such as the ALD iterations and the minimal AURALEE release have boosted the shoe's popularity, although normal releases are just as popular as the collabs.

Last month, Teddy Santis, the creative director for New Balance's Made in the USA brand, unveiled the 650R, a new high-top shape inspired by the 550 and featuring the same basketball-inspired allusions.

There's no denying that the New Balance 550 is an instant classic, and with additional hues on the way, including a light blue version, it'll be here for a while. Keep a watch out for the new hue, which will be available online and at select stores in the coming weeks.
