NIKE GO FLYEASE SURFACES IN NEW COLORWAY, BUT CAN YOU GET THEM?
Nike introduced its first-ever hands-free sneaker, the Go FlyEase, earlier this year to considerable excitement. The good buzz faded soon, however, after the shoe was introduced and almost no one could get their hands on a pair except resellers. While this may seem familiar given the present state of the sneaker business, the Go FlyEase situation is considerably different, since it revolves around a shoe created particularly for individuals with impairments.
Following its restricted
release (Nike promised a broader distribution at a later date), the Go FlyEase
rapidly became available on resale websites for up to six times the initial
retail price of $120. Again, this is a shoe designed to make it easy for
individuals with impairments to wear. While we wait for the second drop, a new
colorway of the Go FlyEase has appeared, but one question remains: will it be obtainable?
The most recent version
of the hands-free sneaker features a primarily red top with orange and pink
accents. Black accents, as well as a white midsole, serve as a compliment
throughout. The Go FlyEase, showcasing the newest innovation of Nike's FlyEase
technology, is distinguished by its bi-stable hinge and midsole tensioner, which
allow the shoe to fully open and close for hands-free on and off. The tension
band that spans the length of the sneaker effectively holds the shoe open so
that people with disabilities don't have to bend over and/or use their hands to
put on or take off the shoe.
A really groundbreaking
design, but what good is it if the people who need it can't afford it? At this
point, only time will tell if the intended audience will be able to obtain a
pair – we just hope Nike has a strategy in place to address the issue.
